Wilmington Rowing Center members race at local, regional, national, and world regattas. We race all USRowing masters classifications and range in age from their mid-20s to their mid-80s.
WRC’s Racing Team is made up of men and women with diverse rowing and racing backgrounds. Some began rowing in high school, some in college, while others first started rowing at WRC through its Learn to Row program. This program is for you if you are interested in rowing with a competitive crew, committing to multiple races a season, and working hard on and off the water.
Practices are typically Monday & Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. The on the water season begins in the early Spring and goes through the Fall regattas. The year is broken into Spring (sprint races, April-July) & Fall (head races, August-October) seasons for registration purposes. Winter land training begins in January and runs through March.
Expectations of the Racing Team are as follows:
-
Commit to 3 team practices/week
-
Commit to attending at least 3 regattas in the current season
-
Show up for practice even in questionable weather (unless practice is canceled), so keep a pair of shoes, etc. for land-workouts in your car.
-
Racing crews should arrange own additional rows leading up to regattas
-
Commit to an additional cardio workout per week (Running, Swimming, Biking, Erging)
-
Commit to racing the races as set by the coach – be a team player
-
Crews may be based on:
-
Erg Testing
-
Seat Racing
-
Other Factors (practice attendance, regatta availability, etc.)
-
The Racing Team season fee covers coaching 3x/week, use of the launches and coxswain gifts. It also has additional fees for regatta entries & trailering costs above and beyond the season fee.
- The Sprint Season is $300
- The Head Season is $250
