This spring a Dragon Boat race is going to take place on the Christina River and all members of WRC are invited to participate!
On Saturday, May 30th the Riverfront Development Corporation is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Delaware Children’s Museum. They are planning a day of Dragon Boat racing. Registration and competition will be open to local companies, community groups, associations, high schools and colleges.
This could be a very cool opportunity for team building, competition and fun for WRC and our members. For full information you can visit the website at www.racingontheriverfront.com
Some of the details include:
- Again, this is a fundraiser for the Delaware Children’s Museum, sponsored by Riverfront Wilmington (aka RDC) and High Five Dragon Boats out of Tampa, Florida.
- The event is open to local companies, community groups, associations, high schools and colleges.
- The main event will be held at the Tubman – Garrett Riverfront Park.
- Public viewing areas will occur at the Tubman Garrett Park. Sounds like a great party opportunity for WRC participants at the T-G Riverfront Park!
- High Five Dragon Boats provides all of the equipment and the steersperson – participating groups provide up to 20 paddlers (registration includes an additional four paddlers as alternates). We are required to provide our own drummer per boat. Each boat must have a minimum of eight women included as paddlers. One training date will be included in the registration cost per boat. The event is scheduled from 9:00 am to 3:00 p.m.
- Each boat will participate in a series of three heats on the day of the race. This is a 300 meter course – straight line – three lanes. There will be 45 to 60 minutes between heats. Alternates can take the place of any paddler during any of the three races.
- The registration fee per boat for a nonprofit like WRC is $800. The WRC Board has agreed to subsidize half of the boat registration fee for up to three boats.
- Dragon Boat seats will be available to all WRC members for $30.00 per paddler. This fee includes the $20.00 seat registration, one WRC Dragon race t-shirt, water, and snacks.
This event will be great fun! Let’s all get together and get as many WRC members out on the water representing our boathouse and win some trophies!
